Required Program Change (RPC)

Required Program Change (RPC) is a term used to describe students who were moved from their major to an undeclared major in The A Center. This typically happens when students are not making progress in their current major (e.g. are not earning high enough grades within their major-specific coursework to indicate future success in the major). Each college that participates in the RPC process has specific criteria for RPCing students.

Students are moved to The A Center to focus on improving their GPA and discussing major options. If returning to the original major is not a feasible option, students should work with their major exploration advisor in The A Center to identify other major options based on interests, strengths, goals, and completed coursework.

We recommend starting by meeting with your new major exploration advisor in a timely manner. They can help you understand why you may have been moved to The A Center, discuss challenges you've faced in your academics, explore other potential major options, and help you come up with a plan for success moving forward.

Note that your major exploration advisor may not be able to tell you whether you can return to your original major or how long that may take. Students should talk to an advisor for their original major for these questions.

You can also find your assigned advisor in your UAcess Student Center. Click on the 'Advising' menu, then 'Advisors and Appointments.' There you can schedule an appointment with your advisor and/or find their email address.
