Declaring a Major

Support for declaring your major!

Congrats for deciding your college major! The last crucial step is completing the major declaration process, and we are here to support. Here are some things to consider in declaring your new major:

  1. Does the major have admission criteria to declare the major?

Tip: Some majors on campus have an additional step to declaring. This could include an application, certain classes be taken, and/or a GPA requirement in core curriculum.

  2. Does the major you are declaring have a GPA minimum?

Tip: Some majors on campus require you have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA to declare. A few majors have higher GPAs.

  3. What are the steps to declaring the major?

Tip: Each major has a process for declaring a major. Some allow you to declare online, some require an information session, and some require a meeting with an advisor. Visit the Advising Resource Center to learn more!

  4. Are there restricted times that you are not eligible to declare the major?

Tip: Some majors only allow major declarations at certain times of the semester/year. Visit the Advising Resource Center to learn more!
